Creative artist/designer Lise Ferreira works and lives in Paris, where she graduated from l’Universite de Paris 8 with a degree in Plastic Arts before unleashing Vanrycke in 2000 to immediate acclaim and recognition. Like many women, Lise never found jewellery that she was happy to wear. This Is Genevieve

A relative newcomer on the scene, this whimsical self-named label by Sydney-based fashion designer Genevieve Er launched its clothing and a small selection of jewellery in 2007, but has since expanded to include swimwear, leather bags, shoes and knitwear. The innovative label has become an ever-growing force in the fashion world; the debut range was picked up by leading boutiques in every major Australian capital city (not bad for someone who has never had formal training!) Superfine



A bit punk, a bit purist, Superfine emerged in 2003 showcasing clean denim silhouettes with a London attitude. Designers Lucy Pinter and Flora Evans shot to fame for conceptualising skinny jeans before the rest of the world realised skinny was the Next Big Thing; trendsetters such as Kate Moss showed their instant appreciation. Shona Joy

Sambag

Sam Wagner studied fashion and design in London and worked with designers Harry Who and George Gross before launching her shoes and accessories business at Sydney’s Paddington Markets. During a trip to New York, Wagner had seen a trend for fabric rather than leather bags. She came back to Sydney and created a range of fabric handbags she would call the Sambag, and quickly built a loyal clientele who loved the price point (well below mainstream boutique bag prices) and the new shapes and styles she would bring each week. In 1998, she self-funded Sambag’s debut at Australian Fashion Week. Today, Sambag accessories business has four retail stores in Sydney and Melbourne, and Wagner distributes shoes and bags to 50 stockists, both locally and offshore, including boutiques in Tokyo, Bahrain, Chicago and New York. Constantly redefining boundaries in the fashion industry, Rock & Republic offers accessories (footwear, maternity wear, handbags, eyewear) and cosmetics, but is best known for its high-end denim wear, considered to be at the forefront of design. Paige Premium Denim

As the body behind such brands as 7 For All Mankind, Lucky Brand, Citizens of Humanity, Guess and others, model/actress Paige Adams-Geller yearned to create the “perfect fitting jean”. Odd Molly

Kooky, handmade, hand-embroidered designer clothing with an edge, Odd Molly was created in Sweden in 2002 by freelance designer Karin Jimfelt-Ghatan and word artist Per Holknekt.
